God, as somebody that grew up in a largely jewish community, holocaust denial is like... so fucking weird.

Because I don’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t terrified of swastika’s, including when I was so young that I didn’t even know what a swastika was.

Because it’s such a strangely specific feeling to be born in the wake of a tragedy so massive that you can still feel it’s reverberations and were born with a weird sense of survivors guilt that will shadow you forever

Because when we were younger and our parents refused to tell us exactly what the holocaust was, we would trade our grandparents horrific experiences like they were scary stories across the camp fire, repeating them over and over to ourselves and eachother so we could figure out what it all meant.

Because I’d see those books with grey photos of Auschtwitz prisoners on the cover and feel like they were looking straight fucking at me.

Because every single Yom HaShoah you’d hear grade school children get up and say “my grandmother was the only one left of her family” or “they barely got out before it started” or “they managed to hide in an attic for months on end” or “my great grandmother managed to jump off one of the trains with her daughter in her arms” or “my grandfather has numbers on his arms but he won’t talk about it” or “my great aunt was shot just before the liberation so she couldn’t get out,” like it was normal.

Because we were always taught to run if we were in a group of non-jews that started making nazi jokes, to laugh along and then take the fuck off to stay safe.

Because the question always lingered over our heads, “what if it happens again? what if it happens to us?”

.... and them some stupid fucking college age white trash dickhead stands up and says “it didn’t happen” or “it wasn’t that bad” and I just can’t... fathom that? Like how the fuck wasn’t this part of your life? How is this not etched into your bones?

And its because it’s not. Like people didn’t grow up with this shit, some people can afford to deny the holocaust and deny antisemitism because it won’t hurt them.

It’s just... fucking wild.

@trainwreckgenerator why did you hide these in the tags

This suggests that Maximum Overdrive was Jurassic Park for motor vehicles.

I’m sorry, but that is misleading as hell. American and European trucks are bred for different purposes.

American trucks are bred for long hauls on largely straight roads. They can go for hours without a break. A European truck needs more breaks and a lighter load, and they would indeed take great internal damage if they tried to keep up with the Longsnout.

image

The European Shortsnout is not bred for looks, but for agility! They navigate the windy roads of Europe in a way that would be way too risky for the powerful, but more clumsy American truck. It is true that the European overheats faster at high speeds, that is the very reason that breaks every 4,5 hours are mandatory for both the truck and the handler and a day of driving can never be longer then 9 hours.

image

So, all in all, appreciate all of our trucks and our shared history, and be the responsible owner that gets the right breed for the right job.

kedreeva

To be fair, the US does have shortnose trucks as well, they’re just a breed kept mainly for very local work where, like the above says, they are working in places with lots of turns, shorter drives, and plenty of stops. I see them used for garbage pickup a lot, where a longnosed Mack wouldn’t be able to fit much less maneuver, and the short nose prevents them from getting rubs (raw skin or even open sores) on their snouts.

image

I would also like to point out that the tags have got it backwards. The wild trucks (which I’m pretty sure are extinct in the wild now) that all modern breeds stemmed from were shortnose trucks. We had known about automobiles and domesticated several species, but the truck species was not discovered until close to the start of the 1900’s, in Germany, which I BELIEVE was the first country to breed them in captivity, although England was the first country to really start using them for work. I managed to find a photo of taxidermied specimen

image

As you can see, it resembles both long and short nosed breeds, as well as the far more common house truck used by individuals instead of for commercial work.

As to the aggression, while the mack longnose LOOKS aggressive, they’re generally gentle giants (although please do give them space on the road! not seeing you in their blind spot is NOT the same as aggression!), it is actually the smaller house truck that is often trained by their handler to be aggressive: the keyword being TRAINED, they are also not naturally aggressive. The only time I have seen a mack be commonly aggressive is when they are pulling 2 gravel trailers, and I would be cranky if I was being overworked, too. If you see them hauling that kind of load, just give them space, and you’ll be fine.

I feel like somebody should add something about the Australian variants.

Does anyone know if/how American School Busses are related to trucks?

Pics for reference:

But short-nose varieties exist, I remember when they first started appearing in my district!

kedreeva

@dreorzen While school buses ARE in the automobile order, they are actually part of the Van family, not the Truck family, due to their passenger capacity. As you can see in the photos, they have no cargo bed or hookup, and are not really built for object transport. But they DO excel at carrying passengers, particularly children (although certainly not limited to just children)

They’re known to be exceptionally protective of any passengers, and if you look closely on that second image you can actually see a specialized appendage that is (I think) unique to school buses- a small, red, octagonal fan, which they extend when there are small creatures around them that they are acquiring or releasing. Much like an angler fish’s bioluminescent bulb appendage, this fan (along with several bioluminescent patches on top of their faces and on their hindquarters) works to mesmerize any other vehicles in close proximity, to where those vehicles will cease movement until the bus lowers the fan. It’s super fascinating behavior, and little wonder why we trust our children to these gentle, protective giants.

I can’t believe that in the year of my ass 2021 I’m still dealing with people insisting I’m some kind of sick threat to the lesbian community.

I don’t care if you think I’m a Real Lesbian or not. I’m not going to date you, I’m not going to fuck you, and I’m not going to dissect parts of my identity that confuse you so you can see how they work. I’m not someone important. I’m not a community leader or elected representative. I’m literally Just Some Guy™️ and if I don’t make sense to you, you can do something about it by minding your own business. I’ve run the gauntlet of psychological torment over the exactitudes of my identity so you don’t have to!

glumshoe

Also, if your problem with me is that I haven’t done a sufficiently good job at cleanly dividing my experiences of Gender and Sexuality according to whatever rubric is in vogue at the moment... get bent. I reserve the right to be imprecise, and if your Theory insists that I am wrong for this, then it’s garbage.

glumshoe

Also also—

I have disavowed people who send hatemail “on my behalf” countless times. The people who follow me are not an army I command, nor are they my friends. I want nothing to do with the kinds of people who send bigoted anons, and I do not think I create an atmosphere that is hospitable towards that kind of person beyond having a lot of traffic.

Every day I block people who follow me for reasons I cannot fathom... people whose views and opinions are antithetical to my own and hostile to me or the communities I belong to. I have posted nothing on my blog that would reasonably attract or encourage Gestapo fetishists, and yet—! I am constantly surprised and dismayed.

This is the nature of an unmoderated public website. People see discourse floating by and decide to get involved whether or not it concerns them in any way, for no reason other than they like to cause problems. Anyone being mean or bigoted to other people “on my behalf” is not only ignoring my requests, they’re actively making my life worse. I block them when I can and if I see it, but I refuse to accept the idea that their existence is a reflection of my Real Values or evidence that I’m a Bad Person.

I get offensive messages all the time. I’ve lost count of the number of death and rape threats (and IRL harassment) I’ve received because they are a fact of life if you have any kind of audience on the Internet. They smell blood in the water and go after it—it’s not the fault of any particular person for inspiring them simply by having conflict with me.

It sucks, and the nature of the internet means it’s most likely going to go on sucking, and my own ability to mitigate it is limited to repeating my stance that I don’t want people to attempt to fight my battles for me or to harass people on my behalf.

With that said, I will block bigots and beg people not to be hateful oh my behalf—but I won’t defend your offensive opinions. Other people disagreeing with your shitty hot takes that you share in public isn’t my fucking problem. Someone calls you a slur? Yes, they’re a garbage person, and I don’t want them following me either. Someone disagrees with your opinion on how trans people should be allowed to identify? Defend your own opinions or don’t share them.

This is your periodic reminder that the story of Jesus flipping over tables in the Temple is inherently antisemitic and holding it up as a great example of “fighting capitalism” or some such in the modern day is also antisemitic because those people in the Temple were doing what they were instructed to do in the Torah (in Deuteronomy) to help make the Temple more accessible to those who lived far away. The story frames the fulfillment of this commandment from Gd as Jews being greedy, opportunistic, schemers and I’m so tired of people talking about it like it’s a good thing.

Goyim please reblog, and if you interact with this post please just be respectful.

rimonoroni

Oh, and here’s something about the temple: you wanna know what the temple did with its sacrifices and money? Redistributed them to the poor. Fucking. Literally. That is one of the main purposes. Of the temple. That is an essential function. Y’all don’t know shit about the temple, learn about it maybe. I’m so fucking tired of this shit fucking hell

Every day I have to unlearn a piece of information from Catholic school and evert day I understand the christian view of Judaism less and less. It’s like they want all Jews to be their cute little buddy religion, but only so long as we understand that is some kind of incomplete, proto-christianity.

Its sick.
